Probably the happiest boy on the track is Fernando Alonso. Speaking before media in Formula One testing before the season opener in March, the double World Champion was all praises for the Ferrari F10 and considers it the best he’s ever driven yet.
Make no mistake Alonso gave Renault’s R25 and R26 back-to-back Constructor’s titles in 2005 and 2006 ending Ferrari and Michael Schumacher’s dominance.
So is he happy? Ecstatic! In the first day of testing, Ferrari’s F10 blasted the competition in lap times. Although in succeeding tests, Red Bull and McLaren were competitive, Alonso was quick to defend that the Scuderia’s real pace has yet to be unleashed especially in lower fuel levels when the car is at its lightest.
Despite budget caps, Ferrari’s unlimited resources enable them to make improvements on last year’s uncompetitive F60. The F10’s rear diffuser is a subject of speculation, it’s mechanics quick to cover the design from prying eyes prior to the first race of the season.
Hold on to your horses then, Fernando. March is coming soon enough.
It cannot be said for USF1. Unable to get financial backing, the neophyte F1 team based in
requests to miss the first 4 races of 2010. Too bad. Just when Charlotte, NC North America has started to join the premier of motorsports racing in a European-dominated event, resources become an issue.
